On another job with the pool company, the Gunite pump, which is what sprays the cement onto the bottom and sides to the swimming pool, was standing in a few inches of water but had stopped working. It was plugged into an electrical supply. My boss told me to go over and give it a few whacks to get it restarted. Without thinking I walked into the standing water, grabbed the pump and realized too late that I was being electrocuted. I was frozen to the pump and couldn’t let go of it as the electricity coursed through my body. What saved me from electrocution? I fell over and the impact of hitting the ground miraculously knocked my hands loose. I was knocked unconscious and woke up in an ambulance on its way to the ER.
