An Offer

I was working as a computer programmer fresh out of college. A co-worker of mine named Don and I became friends. We worked together and played tennis together. Don began to tell me about his personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I had grown up in the church and knew of Jesus, but had become an atheist in college, allowing science to replace God in my life. I loved a good battle, so I debated vigorously with Don about creation, the scriptures, Jesus, and everything related to his faith in Jesus Christ. Eventually, Don asked me to meet with his friend Clem. I agreed, and Clem and I began to meet. He would offer evidence of God’s creation, God’s love for me, and His desire to have a relationship with me, and I would fight back with scientific evidence to disprove God as creator and even the existence of God. Finally, after months of meetings, Clem challenged me, knowing that evidence was not required but that faith was. Like in the Godfather movies, he said to me, “I am going to make you an offer, you cannot refuse. You say that there is nothing after this life, that we all just end, that there is no God, but what if you are wrong? And you have not believed in Jesus, what then? If the only thing that can save you is believe in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. What then?”

Well, I had no answer to that. I knew it had to be a decision of faith. And as I grew in my faith and relationship with Jesus Christ, I realized that my belief that science was fact and faith was a myth was dispelled. All evidence is viewed through a worldview or a belief system about the past. This article provides a great argument.

And so I make you the same offer that you cannot refuse. You must decide one way or the other, is Jesus who he says that he is. If you don’t believe then by default the answer is No. So will you today, change your answer to Yes?
